Chapter 6

Ten minutes later, the trucks are loaded up and, using the GPS coordinates Liam gave them, they head out for the first internment camp. Liam returns to the war room to work on mapping the next locations, making sure to mark every time a new fire is reported. Graham and Niko monitor the radio transmissions. After a while, Niko gets bored and decides to do a perimeter sweep above ground. He goes to the armory and loads up with gear.

A short time later, he returns. “All clear.” He states.

“Good. Did you think it wouldn’t be?” Graham asks.

“No, but you never know. You can’t be too careful.” Niko says.

“Oh my God.” Graham says. “Listen to this.” He takes off the headphones he’s been listening to the radio through.

‘Oh my God! They’re monsters! How could they do this to them? There are women and children in there. Someone help us. Please! If anyone can hear us. Help! Please! They sealed the gates and drove away, leaving us to die.’

“Oh my God!” Niko exclaims as he grabs the CB. “Dad! Dad! Come in!”

“I’m here, Nik. What’s up?” John replies.

“It’s bad, Mac.” Graham says into the CB. “They have sealed the gates to the internment camps and drove away, leaving everyone there to die.”

“Shit. Heartless Bastards!” John exclaims. “How could they do that?”

“Dad, we need to start thinking about trying to save those to the North of us.” Niko says.

“Agreed, son. Ask Liam if there are any more camps we can hit down this way today. Tomorrow we will start heading North. Tell him to start making plans for that.”

Niko relays the message to Liam and comes back. “Dad, Liam says there are two more camps you can hit today. They are both within 15 minutes of the camp you’re heading to now.”

“Excellent. Have him send me the coordinates on my phone.” John says.
